Stonehenge Plain Barrow Map

Amazing work by Simon Banton:

http://web.org.uk/tmp/barrowmap/v15.html

A map of the barrow data contained in Richard Colt Hoare's 'Tumuli Wiltunenses - a Guide to the Barrows on the Plains of Stonehenge', cross-referenced to Goddard/Grinsell barrow numbers.

  1. As Sarek of Vulcan would say: "Mr Banton, your work is ... satisfactory."

As Wiseman of America would say: "This work rivals Cleal as a compendium and will prove to be a watershed resource."
(He adds: "You have way too much time on your hands!")

    Best,
    Neil

  2. Very useful cross referencing work. Use this with my 1600BC Stonehenge Landscape reconstruction (2004) it makes understanding the landscape and relation between barrows and the other monuments clearer.
Is there a reason why the Old and New Kings Barrows are not included?

    1. Peter - thanks, your landscape has now been added as an additional post - http://www.sarsen.org/2016/04/the-stonehenge-landscape-1600bc-by.html

    2. Hi Peter - Colt Hoare and Cunnington didn't excavate NKB or OKB, so that's why they're not included.
